There are a lot of things that we can do with the help of the internet banking of SBI. For each type of request, there are different sections. Today we will learn how one can stop cheque payment in SBI Online.
We will do this with the help of the Cheque Book Services section of internet banking. To do this you will need to have three things with you.
The first one is you will need to have your internet banking username. The second one is your login password. And the third one is the cheque number whose payment you want to stop.
Where Can I Find the Cheque Number?
The cheque number is printed on the cheque leaves which you have issued. If you have a picture of the cheque then you can easily do it.
But in case if you don’t have then you can refer to your cheque book and find out the number of the missing cheque. (which you have issued)

I don’t have My Internet Banking Username and Password What Should I Do?
Without access to an internet banking account, it is pretty hard to stop the cheque payment. But there is no need to worry.
If you have not activated or registered for the internet banking services yet. Then you can register for it with the help of the “New User” option on the official website of SBI.
And in case if you have forgotten your password or the username. Then use the “Forgot” option to recover the same.
Steps to Stop Cheque Payment in SBI Online
Time needed: 5 minutes
You can stop the cheque payment by entering the cheque number in SBI online. This can be done within 5 minutes of time.
- Visit the official website of the State Bank of India.
First of all open the browser you use and visit the official website of the State Bank of India.
- Log in to your internet banking account.
Enter your username and the login password to login into your account.
- Click on Request and Enquiries.
Once you have logged in to your account. You have to select “Request & Enquiries” from the top menu of the internet banking interface. This can be done by clicking on it.
- Select Cheque Book Services.
Now you have to select “Cheque Book Sevices” by clicking on it.
- Click on Stop Cheque Payment.
You can find all the cheque-related services on the Cheque Book Services page. Now you have to select the “Stop Cheque Payment” option.
- Select your Bank Account Number or Nickname.
You will see all the accounts that you hold with the State Bank of India will be displayed to you. If you have set the nicknames you will see those. Select the account to which the cheque is linked.
- Enter the Cheque Number Whose Payment you Want to Stop.
If you have a single cheque to stop then enter its number. But in case if you have multiple cheques then you can enter the starting and ending numbers.
- Select the Type of Cheque and the Reason why you Want to Stop.
Now the system will ask you to select the type of cheque that you are stopping. (Normal or Multi-city Cheque) And after that select the reason why you want to stop the cheque from the drop-down menu.
- Read, Accept the Terms and Conditions of the bank and click on the Submit button.
There are certain terms and conditions of the bank that you have to agree to. Read them carefully and if you accept them. Then tick the box and click on the “Submit” button.
How Much Does SBI Charge to Stop the Cheque Payment?
State Bank of India will charge you a service charge of Rs. 100 + GST per instrument maximum and Rs. 500 + GST per instance. These charges will be recovered from your bank account balance separately.
What are the Reasons to Stop the Cheque Payment?
There are different reasons that you can select. I have mentioned them below.
- Issued in Error.
- Cheque Book was Stolen.
- Cheque was Lost in the Post.
- Paid in Cash.
- Cheque Was Reissued.
- And others.
